BATTLE TESTED: Ruste Juxx

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK | RUSTE JUXX

INTERVIEW INNOCENT?

VALIDATED: For the people who don’t know, who is Ruste Juxx?

RUSTE JUXX: Ruste Juxx is an Indestructible Emcee who was born and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn that later became a internationally known underground King.

VALIDATED: Being from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York, what’s your earliest memory of hip hop culture?

RUSTE JUXX: My first introduction to Hip Hop was a tape that my uncle gave to me when I was around four or five years old. He recorded songs off the radio that blew my mind.

VALIDATED: Who are some of the emcees that influenced your flow and what if anything did you “borrow” from them?

RUSTE JUXX: My Uncle Ray was a Emcee and he was my idol, so I wanted to be a Emcee too… I borrowed his consistency.

VALIDATED: How did you get on BET 106 & Park and what was that experience like?

RUSTE JUXX: A good friend of mine named Prince (Duck Down family) knew someone at BET and hooked me up. I was battling the next week. I loved it and it’s a great part of my history.

VALIDATED: Do you ever get the itch to battle?

RUSTE JUXX: No, I don’t but if I ever have to go to war on the mic I'm more that ready. (Laughs)

VALIDATED: What’s your affiliation with Duck Down Music?

RUSTE JUXX: I'm the 9th member of Boot Camp Clik.

VALIDATED: You’re a protégée of the late great Sean Price, how did you two meet and how instrumental was he in your rap career?

RUSTE JUXX: My manager at the time named Errol introduced me to Sean Price. Sean loved how I rhymed and let me feature on two songs from Heltah Skeltahs second Album Magnum Force, the title track “Magnum Force” and “Gangs All Here”. It changed my life.

VALIDATED: What’s the one piece of advice that he gave you that seems to resonate with you most?

RUSTE JUXX: I learned from his actions. He showed me what it takes to be the most incredible artist on the planet.

VALIDATED: Do you think it’s harder now for underground artists, such as yourself, to make it big in the music business?

RUSTE JUXX: It's way easier for underground artists now because there’s so many opportunities to showcase your talents and make a lot of money while you're at it.

VALIDATED: Would you encourage your children to pursue a career in hip hop or the “music business” in general?

RUSTE JUXX: I would encourage my children to be the owners and creators of whatever they chose to do.

VALIDATED: Are there any artists or producers you still want to work with from your bucket list?

RUSTE JUXX: I would love to work with Large Pro, Preemo and Diamond D.

VALIDATED: You’ve got two projects dropping soon, “I’m Not Like These Other Rappers”, produced by DJ Views and you and Rockness Monsta have the “Crownsville” album on the way. What can you tell us about the projects?

RUSTE JUXX: The album with Dj Views is a absolutely amazing piece of work, I'm very proud of this project.

The Crownsville album is gonna change the game when it drops. Me and Rock are two elite architects building and destroying.

VALIDATED: Who’s featured on the projects?

RUSTE JUXX: They're not yet fully completed yet so I'll post about all the features when its done.

VALIDATED: What’s your favorite record from each project?

RUSTE JUXX: Both projects are completely unskipable I couldn't even pick two favorites. Theres so many... (Laughs)

VALIDATED: What’s your social media contacts and website?
